About the Project
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) and Scripps Institution of Oceanography collaborated to license the artwork “Kingdom of Ocean” by Indonesian artist Iannocent, originally created as a Printed Oceans print, for use on the Ocean Pavilion at COP28.
Adorning one of the facades of the Ocean Pavilion, the artwork served as a visual centerpiece amidst a diverse array of themes addressing critical ocean-related issues, including Ocean Stressors, Rising Seas, and Blue Economy & Finance. Hosted at Expo City, Dubai, from November 30th to December 13th, 2023, COP28 aimed to advance global dialogue and action on climate change, with the Ocean Pavilion serving as a crucial platform for showcasing innovative solutions and promoting awareness of ocean conservation efforts.
By licensing “Kingdom of Ocean,” WHOI and Scripps underscored their commitment to elevating the importance of ocean science and environmental advocacy on the international stage.
