Call for Mural Artists

Mahé, Seychelles

We’re excited to invite local Seychellois mural artists to apply to participate in Mahé Ocean Murals, a large-scale public art and community engagement project taking place in Victoria in March 2026.

In partnership with Save Our Seas Foundation, this project brings together local and international artists, marine scientists, and community members to create impactful murals focused on ocean health, explored through a ridge-to-reef or summit-to-sea perspective.

If, after reading the below guidelines, you believe this opportunity is for you, submit your application today!

Save Our Seas Foundation

About the Opportunity

Selected local artists will collaborate with international muralists and ocean experts to paint large-scale public murals in highly visible locations in downtown Victoria. Artists will also participate in a week of interdisciplinary programming that emphasizes the connections between land, coast, and ocean, including how issues such as plastic pollution, runoff, and habitat loss on land impact the sea.

Programming will include artist orientations, nature excursions, group meals, and public events designed to deepen understanding of Seychelles’ marine environment and the forces that shape it.

This is an opportunity to:

  • Contribute to a high-profile public art project centered on ocean conservation
  • Explore ocean storytelling through a ridge-to-reef lens
  • Engage in creative exchange with international artists and marine scientists
  • Be part of PangeaSeed’s long-standing global legacy of purpose-driven public art

Artist Honorarium and Support

  • Artist honorarium: USD $1,000
  • Meals: Lunches, snacks, and group dinners provided during programming from March 21 to 29
  • Materials: All paint, materials, and access equipment provided
  • Locations: Mural sites are located in Victoria

Project Timeline

  • Programming dates: March 21 to 29, 2026
  • Mural painting period: March 23 to 28, 2026, six days total

Creative Focus and Themes

Artists will work from a shared creative brief developed by PangeaSeed, with access to expert connections and scientific context. Murals will focus on ocean ecosystems and conservation, while incorporating a ridge-to-reef approach that reflects how land, people, and marine systems are interconnected.

Themes may include:

  • Plastic and pollution, including land-based sources that reach the ocean
  • Interconnected endemic species, critical habitats, and people from ridge to reef
  • Coastal ecosystems, including coral reefs and mangroves
  • Blue Economy and Marine Spatial Planning, focusing on ocean and communities
  • Sharks and rays
  • The deep sea

Final designs will require a sketch submission for review by the project team and approval by the property owner prior to painting.
