Open Call For Cities

Bring a PangeaSeed Public Art Project to your Community

For the first time, PangeaSeed is offering an opportunity for cities to submit applications to bring public art for oceans to their community.

Over the last decade, we’ve produced over 500 ocean advocacy murals in 20 countries across the globe through our pioneering public art program, Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans. By collaborating with diverse community organizers, artists, and environmental advocates, we’ve told compelling visual stories about pressing marine environmental issues in locations as far-flung as the polar bear capital of the world and the coral triangle.

Building on this remarkable experience and track record, we’re now excited to invite cities worldwide to respond to our RFP (request for proposals) and apply to bring PangeaSeed’s expertise and unique interdisciplinary approach to your community.

By working with our team, cities can realize creative placemaking initiatives that integrate climate action and sustainability commitments with their public art strategies to cultivate vibrant, engaged, and ocean-minded communities.

We review applications on a rolling basis but opportunities are limited, so apply today to secure a spot to enrich your city’s cultural landscape while fostering environmental stewardship, cultural identity, and community engagement.

Not a City Representative?

If you’re an artist, local business, or community organization interested in seeing public art for oceans in your town, nominate your city by encouraging them to apply to this opportunity and become part of the organizing team.

Who is eligible to apply?

We’re accepting applications from cities worldwide. Applications should be submitted by a city representative.

How much does a project cost?

On average, the cost for a single mural is approximately $30,000. However, if more than three murals are installed at once, the per-mural cost may decrease as a result of economies of scale.

Who is responsible for securing funding?

We expect the primary applicant to assemble an Organizing Team comprised of government, business and community leaders who will be responsible for fundraising.

What is PangeaSeed responsible for?

Once funding is secured, our team will provide a host of services, including:

  • Comprehensive project management
  • Drafting and executing contracts with building owners
  • Liability insurance
  • Resources to help engage building owners and secure walls
  • Actionable budget based on the defined scope of the project
  • Professional photo and video documentation
  • Access to PangeaSeed’s globe-spanning network of professional muralists
  • Artist communications and contracting
  • Exploratory site visit to learn about your city and meet stakeholders in person
  • Our production team will be on-site for the duration of the installation phase to ensure successful project completion.
How long does it take to paint the murals?

The production phase to install the murals lasts about two weeks per project.
