Guam Coral Reef Symposium

About the Project

PangeaSeed made a significant impact at the 30th Pacific Islands Environment Conference and 5th Guam Coral Reef Symposium in Guam, held from June 23rd to 28th, 2019, through a multifaceted engagement initiative.

Two local artists, Austin Domingo and Via Valencia, brought marine stewardship to life through live painting sessions during the conference, creating vibrant artworks that resonated with attendees. In addition to these artistic endeavors, PangeaSeed facilitated a science communication workshop, encouraging participants to visually communicate marine research paper abstracts, bridging the gap between scientific findings and public understanding.

The presence of PangeaSeed extended beyond art, with a plenary presentation emphasizing the transformative power of art in catalyzing positive change for ocean conservation. Furthermore, participants were actively engaged in hands-on workshops, where they repurposed local marine debris to create print designs on reusable tote bags, promoting sustainability and raising awareness about the impacts of waste on marine ecosystems. Complementing these efforts was a captivating photo exhibit showcasing the impactful Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans murals, serving as a visual testament to the intersection of art and environmental advocacy. Against the backdrop of the Pacific Islands Environment Conference and Guam Coral Reef Symposium, PangeaSeed’s holistic approach fostered dialogue, inspired action, and underscored the critical importance of collaborative efforts in safeguarding our oceans for future generations.
