Ethan Estess is an artist, marine biologist, and founder of the nonprofit Countercurrent, dedicated to fostering ocean stewardship through science-based public art installations and youth workshops. His work highlights marine plastic pollution, particularly beyond the scope of single-use plastics. Estess holds a BS and MS in Earth Systems from Stanford University and employs assemblage sculpture to tell powerful environmental stories. Living in Santa Cruz, CA, with his wife and daughter, he continues to merge art and science to promote responsible fisheries and ocean conservation.
