George Rose is a Melbourne-based artist renowned for her large-scale murals and vibrant use of color. With an initial education in design followed by formal training at ANU School of Art, George embarked on a full-time career as a muralist. Her work is characterized by gestural mark-making, often recreated at scale, intertwining endemic botanicals and personal source material. Exploring the fragility of nature, she balances hard edges with bold, undulating colors and textures, frequently showcasing endangered indigenous flora and fauna on expansive building canvases.
George’s diverse clientele includes prestigious institutions such as Musée Pierre-Noël de Saint-Dié-des-Vosges in France and the SRAAT Museum in Amsterdam, as well as global media giants like Instagram and TikTok. Actively participating in the mural festival circuit, her murals can be found on walls worldwide, including in Australia, the USA, Asia, and Europe. Recognized as one of Australia’s foremost female muralists, George has received multiple accolades, including awards at the Resene Total Colour Awards in 2020 and 2023, and the ‘Best Mural’ title at the Street Art Australia Prize in 2019.
