Katun is a graffiti artist and illustrator based in Kajang, Malaysia, who has carved out a distinct identity in the art world through his love of reinterpreting cartoon characters. Growing up in Malaysia, his everyday exposure to monkeys and forestry sparked his inspiration to create his signature apes. These apes, robust in body form, are redefined with a humanistic silhouette while retaining the natural, disjointed limbs of the Orangutan, also known as the “Man of the forest.” This unique interpretation has become Katun’s hallmark, setting his work apart in the graffiti scene.
With 17 years of experience in graffiti, Katun continues to expand his passion for character style. He admires a wide range of styles in graffiti, each with its own unique identity, drawing inspiration from writers like Cantwo, Tonesrock, Dater, Boogie, Acroe, and Zoner. For character inspiration, he looks up to artists such as Kopye, OG Slick, Nilko, Darkelixir, Hombre, and Clogtwo. Katun’s dedication to his craft and his ability to blend traditional and modern elements have made him a prominent figure in the graffiti and street art community, both in Malaysia and beyond.
