Kellie Miyazu

Youth Education Director, EHCC

Kellie Miyazu is a graduate of the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo, with a BA in Art. She attended California College of the Arts in the Bay Area for part of her education. She has been a freelance painter and graphic designer for the past few years. In 2015, she began teaching art at Waiakeawaena Elementary, UH Hilo Center for Community Engagement, and the E.B. DeSilva EdVenture Afterschool Enrichment Program, as well as private art lessons for individual students and small groups.

She joined the EHCC team in 2016 as the Center’s graphic designer and helped with creating the current logo. She began assisting with creating the exhibition posters, then took on the role solo shortly after. She looks forward to creating a new poster for each exhibit, “It’s a monthly challenge for my creativity”. In addition, through her various teaching jobs she discovered she greatly enjoyed working with children and in 2016 she created the Youth Arts Series at EHCC. “I feel that arts education is so important for children, and is largely lacking in many public schools. As a community organization I feel that it is necessary for EHCC to do its part in providing art opportunities for keiki, which I have tried to accomplish through YAS”.
