Marti Lund is a painter, muralist and creative educator based in Cape Town, SA. His art practice oscillates between the studio where he creates figurative oil painting, and the urban walls where he paints murals on walls. He is inspired by the journey of story-telling, often seeking out society’s counternarratives and honoring the beauty of people in their day-to-day. In the evenings he teaches at ArtKlub, his own ‘Analog Visual Artschool for Grownups’. ArtKlub is a growing community of creatives. Its’ offering includes courses and ongoing visual arts programs with a focus on painting. It is a space for artists to level-up their practice and allow creativity and visual artmaking to become a part of their day-to-day.
He completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts Cum Laude at Rhodes University. Since then he has traveled and painted extensively, consistently exploring the tension between wall/canvas and public/ private space.
Through constant geographical and creative exploration; painting street art festivals, commissions, and personal work, his work finds its roots in years of research, unexpected narratives created through collage and a practical creative dialogue between the wall and the canvas. His work allows the viewer the space to explore the unpredictable and in doing so, challenge the major narratives and presumptions carried by the language of pictures.
